4/9/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's Under 23's
squad were eliminated from the semi-finals this afternoon 2-1 on aggregate
after a goaless second semi-final leg. While the Bluebell's did most of the
attacking they were unable to penetrate the minor premiers defence and score
the two goals required to make the Grand Final. Congratulations boys on a
fine season.

AUGUST
 | 30/8/09- At Northern NSW
Football's awards dinner last night West Wallsend Club President George
Devetak was the recipient of the Administrator of the year award. The Club
would like to congratulate George on his success. The federation also named
West Wallsend player Jack 'Bully' Hughes in their 125th Anniversary team. |
 | 29/8/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's Under 23's
squad were defeated 2-1 in their semi-final first leg against Minor premiers
Edgeworth. Edgeworth jumped out of the box with two goals in the first
fifteen minutes. The Bluebell's came back strongly and created a host of
chances, unfortunately they could only capatalise on one finished by Jarrod
Lacey to give the Bluebell's a fighting chance for the second leg. |
 | 23/8/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's finished the
season with a disappointing 0-2 loss to Wooden Spooners Toronto-Awaba. After
the dissapointment of dropping out of the semi-final race the week before, a
flat looking Bluebell's outfit struggled to compete with the Stags who were
looking to send outgoing coach Troy Halpin off with a win. In the lower
grades Under 23's confirmed their semi-final spot with a 6-1 win, while the
Under 18's finished the season with a 3-1 win. Next Saturday the Under 23's
take on minor premiers in the semi-final first leg at Darling Street Oval. |
 | 16/8/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's were
eliminated from the semi-final race this afternoon despite defeating last
season's minor and major premiers Broadmeadow Magic 4-1. Goals to Doug West,
John Stojanovski, Tom Walker and Kyle Clarke put the premiers to the sword,
however results elsewhere ensured the Bluebell's would have to wait another
season at least to make the semi-finals. In the lower grades Under 23's
suffered their worst loss of the season 6-1, while the Under 18's were
defeated 6-0. Next Sunday the West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's finish their
season with a home fixture against Toronto Awaba. |
 | 9/8/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's semi-final
hopes look all but dashed after going down 1-0 to fellow semi-final
contenders Hamilton Olympic. In a very even match the home side went down to
a Murray Fletcher goal with ten minutes remaining. While still
mathematically possible for the Bluebell's to make the semi's the Bluebell's
will be required to depend on other results to go their way. In the lower
grades Under 23's suffered their worst loss of the season 6-1, while the
Under 18's were defeated 6-0. Next Sunday the West Wallsend Workers
Bluebell's host Broadmeadow Magic. |
 | 2/8/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's lost the third
derby fixture against Edgeworth this afternoon at Jack McLaughlin Oval 2-1.
The difference between the two sides was Edgeworth goalkeeper who time and
time again denied the Bluebell's. A Todd McManus goal finally beating Smith
with 10 minutes remaining, however, goals to Mathews and Clarke either side
of halfway ensured Edgeworth's victory. In the lower grades Under 23's were
defeated 3-0, while the Under 18's were defeated 6-0. Next Sunday the West
Wallsend Workers Bluebell's semi-final aspirations go on the line against
Hamilton Olympic at Varley Park. |
JULY
 | 29/7/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's defeated South
Cardiff 4-1 in their deferred fixture last night. In a set back, the

The Bluebell's scored through Jacob Bailey, Tom Walker, Dan Walker and Todd
McManus. In the lower grades Under 23's made a stirring comeback in a 4-3
win, while the Under 18's were much improved from the weekends loss but were

|
 | 26/7/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's suffered a
major setback in their quest to reach the semi-finals when they were
defeated 1-0 by South Cardiff this afternoon. With both sides desperate for
the win the match was a tight affair with chances few and far between. The
Bluebell's having the better first half chances, while the Gunners shaded
the second half chances and grabbed the winner ten minutes from full time
through Jamie Subat. In the lower grades Under 23's scored an impressive 3-0
win, while the Under 18's were defeated 5-0. On Wednesday Night the West

 | 19/7/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's secured a
vital point at Varley Park against the second placed Valentine Phoenix.
Phoenix took the lead after some relentless pressure resulted in the
awarding of a penalty. The Bluebell's equalised moments before halftime
through Tom Walker as he stroked the ball past the advancing Phoenix
goalkeeper. The second half was more end to end with both sides having some
good chances but when Daniel Ciarrocchi scored his second with only
five minutes remaining to give Valentine a 2-1 lead it looked like the
Bluebell's would end the day empty handed. However, Todd McManus won and
converted a penalty in injury time to secure a point for the home side which
could be vital come season's end. In the lower grades Under 23's moved into
the top four with a 3-2 win, while the Under 18's were defeated 3-1. This
Sunday the Bluebell's travel to Ulinga Oval for a season defining fixture
against the resurgent South Cardiff Gunners. |

 | 12/7/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's scored their
third win in four starts when they defeated Weston Workers Bears 2-1 at
Thomas and Coffey Park. A goal each to Robert Gorseski and Todd McManus in
the second half secured the result for the visitors, but had to endure a
torrid final ten minutes when Mick Holt halved the Bluebell's lead and the
Bears threw themselves forward to try and keep their slim semi-finals hopes
alive. In the lower grades Under 23's drew 2-2, while the Under 18's were
defeated 2-1. This Sunday the Bluebell's are at home at Varley Park, for the

injury time goal 1-0 against Hamilton Olympic at Darling Street Oval this
afternoon. In a dour affair where clear cut chances were few and far between
Chris Berlin headed a goal in injury time at the end of the match to put a
significant blow into the Bluebell's semi-final chances. In the lower grades
Under 23's were convincing 3-1 winners, while the Under 18's were defeated
3-1. This Wednesday the Bluebell's travel to Lyle Peacock Field for their
deferred Round 12 fixture against Toronto Awaba. |

best win of the season when they defeated Broadmeadow 4-1 yesterday at
Wanderers Oval. John Stojanovski's two first half goals catapulted him to
the top of the goalscorer's charts. Broadmeadow halved the lead from a
freekick early in the second half but further goals to Todd McManus and
Robert Gorseski completed the Bluebell's comprehensive victory. In the lower
grades Under 23's rallied in the second half but could not peg back a 0-2

the lead yesterday was defeated 2-1 by Hamilton Olympic at Varley Park. John

however Hamilton equalised before half time tough Chris Berlin and claimed
all three poins when Murray Fletcher finished from close range. In the lower

 | 8/6/09- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's had to settle
for a draw in today's home fixture against the Weston Workers Bears after
twice taking the lead. A sweet left foot strike from John Stojanovski gave
the Bluebell's the lead, the Bears struck back back from one of a barrage of
free kicks which was headed home. The Bluebell's took the lead for a second
time in the second half when Kyle Clarke finished a flick on from John
Stojanovski but the lead was short lived when Morris delicately chipped
Devetak in the Bluebell's goal to reach the final score of 2-2 . In the
lower grades Under 23's came from behind for a 2-1 victory, while the Under
18's posted a resounding 4-0 victory. This Sunday the Bluebell's are home to

 | 1/6/09-The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's came from behind
to draw 1-1 with Valentine Phoenix yesterday. The match was played under
very trying conditions at a very wet Cahill Oval. Valentine opened the
scoring twenty minutes in when the Bluebell's failed to clear a corner. Both
sides had chances but neither could make them pay. The Bluebell's missed two
great chances in the last ten minutes and thought they would be going home
empty handed, however, substitute Todd McManus latched on to a Craig Simpson
pass in injury time to give the Bluebell's a share of the spoils. In the
lower grades Under 23's and the Under 18's were both washed out and are to
be played at a date yet to be determined. |
 | 28/5/09-The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's went down in
last night 0-2 to Broadmeadow Magic. Magic took the lead through a first
half penalty. The second half was very open with both sides having good
chances but it was Magic who sealed the win with ten minutes remaining. In
the lower grades Under 23's drew 1-1, while the Under 18's are to be played
at a date yet to be determined. |

 | 18/5/09-The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's went down in
yesterday's local derby 2-1 to cross town rivals Edgeworth Eagles. A
comprehensive first half display had the young Bluebell outfit leading 1-0
at the break after a well constructed passing move was finished off
clinically by John Stojanovski. The Bluebell's were unable to keep up the
momentum in the second half and two lapses in concentration proved costly
when a blocked shot fell nicely to Andrew Myles to drive home in the 50th
minute and Alex Johnson-Young scored the winner for the second season in a
row at Wembley when he headed home a Sean Babic cross in the 60th minute. In
the lower grades Under 23's went down 2-3, while the Under 18's posted a 2-1

 | 3/5/09-The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's
scored their first home victory of the season yesterday 4-3 against a
desperate Toronto Awaba side. While the Bluebell's put on a sub par
performance, the coaching staff were relieved to get the three points. Rob
Askew made his first grade debut for the club when he replaced the injured
Simon Devetak after ten minutes. However, Bluebell's striker John
Stojanovski was the hero for the home team with two goals in each half that
secured the victory. It was the first time someone had scored four goals in
the top grade since Toby Coates against Cessnock in 2006. His two goals in
the first half gave the Bluebell's a 2-0 half time advantage, Toronto came
back strongly in the second half to tie the game up at 3-3 with ten minutes
to go but Stojanovski fourth in the 88th minute captured all three points
for the Bluebell's. In the lower grades Under 23's won handsomely 5-0 while
the U/18's lost 1-3. Next Sunday the Bluebell's take on Broadmeadow Magic
away at Wanderers Oval. |
APRIL
 | 27/4/09-The West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's
went down in the first local derby of the season under lights at Jack
McLaughlan Oval against the competition favourites. The Bluebell’s
started this one a little tentative, showing the Eagles too much respect.
This proved costly when they failed to close down an Edgeworth attacker
whose shot from the edge of the box gave the Eagles the lead. The
Bluebell’s stepped up after this setback and were back on level terms when
Michael Sessions headed home a Kyle Clarke corner. In the second half again
Edgeworth had the better part of the start of the half with the Bluebell’s
finishing the stronger. However an intercepted pass enabled the Eagles to
catch the Bluebell’s on the break, and all though Edgeworth's original
shot was parried by the keeper Edgeworth’s Sean Mathews was on hand to
head home the rebound. In the lower grades Under 23's went down 1-4 while
the U/18's, despite not having a goalkeeper due to injury, had a morale
boosting 2-1 victory. On Saturday the Bluebell's are at home (Varley Park)
and take on Toronto-Awaba. |

 | 19/4/2009-West Wallsend Workers Bluebell's posted their
second win of the season when they overcome South Cardiff 1-0 at Ulinga Park
this afternoon. The match was marred by a strong breeze and heavy rain
showers. South Cardiff ran with the breeze in the first half and aerially
bombarded the Bluebell's goal. While the defence held firm the Bluebell's
had four good chances to take the lead but were all well saved by the South
Cardiff keeper. The second half was evenly matched with the Bluebell's
scoring the winner from a through ball which was missed by the Southy
defence and latched onto by Tom Walker to wrap up all three points for the
Bluebell's. In the lower grades Under 23's went down 4-3 after leading 2-0.
Their cause not helped by a being reduced to 10 men. sides. While the U/18's
again also went down 2-4. Next Friday the Bluebell's travel to Jack

 | 12/4/2009-West Wallsend Bluebell's first home match last
night against Valentine Phoenix ended in a narrow 0-1 loss for the home
side. The home sides cause not helped when captain Todd McManus limped off
after fifteen minutes with a foot injury after customarily putting his body
on the line for the Bluebell cause. In a game played at a frantic pace both
sides created some good opportunities but were wasteful in front of goal.
The Bluebell's best chances falling to Craig Simpson and Jon Stojanovski but
unfortunately both steered their shots wide. The Bluebell's conceded a
scrappy goal with twelve minutes remaining to Phoenix's Scott Smith after
failing to clear there lines properly. The game was a good advertisement for
local football and re-enforced that the gap between the top and so called
lesser teams is a fine margin. In the lower grades Under 23's drew 1-1 with
both sides missing penalties. While the U/18's again went down 1-4 after
losing a player and three goals in the last twenty minutes. Next Sunday the
Bluebell's travel to Ulinga Park to take on South Cardiff Gunners. |

 | 5/4/2009- The West Wallsend Workers Bluebells opened their
season with a come from behind 3-1 win against Weston Workers Bears at
Thomas and Coffey Park yesterday. Weston, who qualified for last seasons
final series, were expected to good for the young Bluebell's side being
moulded by new coach Chris Miner. However, in a performance reminiscent of
the Bluebell's side of the early 90's, the young charges took the game to
Weston, and despite falling behind to a Rhys Tippet header, stormed home in
the second half with three unanswered goals to claim the three competition
points and give the Bluebell's their first win at Thomas and Coffey Oval
since the 1989 season. The Bluebells goals were scored by Jacob Bailey (2)
and a Robert Gorseski penalty, with Jacob Bailey's second, a schorching left
foot half volley the pick of the three. In the lower grades, Under 23's drew
1-1 conceding a late equaliser, while the Under 18's was won convincingly
4-1 by Weston. |
